Write on!
Write like a reader. Read like a writer.
For over seven years, 650Words has used the {Think+Talk+Tell} approach to help hundreds of high schoolers across the country develop thoughtful, relevant and reflective college essays that showcase each writer’s individuality. The storytelling skills reinforced through this customized writing process teach students to write like a reader and read like a writer. (Not just for this most-daunting-writing-deadline-ever essay, but for all the life writing that comes next.)
Based in Fairfield County, Connecticut, 650Words offers both in-person and virtual essay coaching sessions.
Hi, I’m Ally.
I’m a self-proclaimed word nerd. A grammar geek. A messaging muse. My modifiers are never misplaced and my prepositions rarely dangle. But more important, perhaps, than my precision with prose, is my love affair with uncovering the story within the story. Over the past two decades, I’ve written about (almost) everything. I began my career as a journalist for international monthly publications, daily newspapers, and news sites. I have also worked in private school admissions and communications. Nowadays, I use my investigative reporting background to help young writers tell their story and find their voice with authenticity and sincerity. With just enough scaffolding to keep the writing focused and just enough coaching to keep the narrative consistent, I chase the story lead to guide each writer’s work at each writer’s pace. All within the application’s 650 word count.
